Udupi, Oct 10: The Mangalore University level inter-collegiate softball tournament,  was inaugurated at St Mary's College, Shirva, in the taluk at 9.30 am on on Friday October 9. The Gracy Machado Trophy of the tournament is being sponsored by Shirva United House.

Gerald Fernandes, zilla panchayat member, inaugurated the tournament. The inaugural was chaired by Fr Frederick Monteiro, correspondent of the college. In his inaugural address, Gerald Fernandes promised to get a sum of one lac rupees sanctioned from the youth and sports department of the zilla panchayat, towards the development of court and track renovation works in the college ground.

Norbert Machado of the United House, Shirva, participated as chief guest. Dinesh Shetty, an industrialist from Shirva and Dr Harish Kumar, physical director of Mangalore University, were present.

Saritha Alva compered the programme. Venugopal Nonda, physical director of the college, proposed vote of thanks.
