Mangalore, Oct 8: The 10th annual Harikatha Week will be initiated at Sri Krishna Kalyana Mandir at Mallikatte in the city on Friday October 9. The programme is being held under the aegis of Sri Krishna Harikatha Saptaha Samiti.
For one week henceforth, veteran and upcoming Harikatha exponents will tell stories to the audience, of the divine acts undertaken by the Gods to annihilate the evil and save their devotees, through a medium of verse and pros, mixed with a liberal sprinkle of minor stories and comedy in between. The timing of the programme will be from 4 pm to 8 pm every day. Before the Harikatha, Bhajans will be chanted at the venue every day.
President of the Samiti, M B Puranik, informed on Wednesday October 7, that the programme is being conducted under the guidance and blessings of both the Swamijis of Pejavar Mutt, Udupi. "The people will get an opportunity to listen to the Harikatha presentations by various artistes from all over the state including Hassan, Bangalore etc.," he explained.
Samiti general secretary, Sudhakar Rao Pejawar, informed that on the first day, Shambhavi, an emerging Harikatha artiste and Sham N Adiga, will give the performances. Srivatsa, Shivakumar Achar and Aswini Achar are scheduled to render Harikatha on Saturday, he explained.
