Ballari, Jan 24: As the reports of a man who failed to get a wheelchair from a hospital, physically carrying his daughter from one part of the hospital to the other hit the headlines and became viral in social websites, the government sat up and took notice. To see that such problems do not recur, two additional wheel chairs were provided in Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) here since Thursday January 23.
Mabasha from Shanawazpur village in Siruguppa taluk had brought his 14-year-old daughter who suffers from a chronic ailment, to VIMS for treatment. When he took his daughter to the emergency unit of the hospital, the staff had asked him to go to another ward. When he sought wheel chair, he was not provided, and asked to bring one from the unit where he is taking his daughter. Therefore, he had to move here and there with his daughter whose condition was precarious on his shoulder.
Responding to the report, deputy chief minister Dr Ashwath Narayan, in a tweet on Thursday, said that he has ordered for a probe into the incident, and assured that he has taken the matter seriously. He said that the college dean has been instructed to award punishment to the guilty. Health minister B Sriramulu, said that the incident was unfortunate and that he has sought explanation from the concerned. He assured that officials found guilty will not be spared.
VIMS director Dr Devanand, said that the staff and doctors have been asked to ensure that the patients are not made to suffer. He said that two wheel chairs will be permanently reserved for those coming for treatment, and boards will be displayed in different departments about it. He said that the information about doctors also would be displayed in the emergency ward.
