Mangalore, Oct 5: The heavy rains made a hurried exist from the coast, even though several areas got good rains on Sunday October 4. Most of the areas in the twin-districts of Uttara Kannada and Udupi experienced shiny weather.
The rivers of the two districts have seen a fall in the water levels. Although the city got some late evening drizzle on Sunday, it did not interfere with the normal functioning. The district administration in the meanwhile, has hastened the work of assessing the damages and undertaking relief works. The district administration has also called for a meeting in the office of the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner on Monday October 5, for collecting clothes, medicines and other donations to help those who have suffered due to the natural calamity in north Karnataka.
Bhagamandala in Kodagu district received 14 cms of rain, while Udupi and Karkala accounted for 8 cms each. Kota, Kundapur, Dharmastala, Subrahmanya etc., received five to six cms of rain on Sunday. The meteorological department has predicted rains to continue in the state's coast, while some northern hinterlands are expected to receive normal to heavy rains.
