Mangalore, Oct 4: ‘The Spirit of a Place’ art exhibition by Jyoti Sahi was inaugurated at Orchid Art Gallery near Balmatta on Saturday October 3.
Speaking after the inauguration, Leela Upadyaya, principal, Sharada Vidyalaya, said that the paintings in the exhibition all enlighten with their theme and are touching.
“Art is great when it touches one’s heart”, she said adding that art has the power to bringing happiness to the mind.
Rev Dr John Fernandes, professor and head of chair in Christianity in Mangalore University, who was the guest of honour at the inaugural said, “An artist touches the mind of a person with his painting. The colourful paintings create happiness and bring peace of mind. They lead one to think of the subjects of the paintings”.
Sahi said, “Everyone is an artist, but some have taken it up as a profession while others pursue it as a hobby. Thus, they appreciate art. People do not need to be artists but only need to appreciate art”.
Bishop C L Furtado, retired bishop of Church of South India, was the chief guest.
William Pais, proprietor of Orchid Art Gallery, conducted the programme. The exhibition will be on till Saturday October 10.
