Mangalore, Sep 23: A two-day seminar on ‘Conservation of Natural Resources and Waste Management’ held with the sponsorship of University Grants Commission (UGC), was inaugurated by member of parliament (MP) Nalin Kumar Kateel at St Agnes College on Wednesday September 23.
Speaking at the inaugural of the two-day seminar organized by the department of zoology, Kateel said that our ancestors had given more importance to nature and had worshipped it. “We have to follow them and preserve nature; otherwise, in future, living beings will suffer due to imbalances which might also lead to diseases. So, we have to give more importance to conservation of natural resources”, he added.
Laxminarayana, general manager, human resources, MRPL, in his keynote address said, “There is need to think seriously about the environment and also the conservation of natural resources. Waste management will be a great task in future. So, everyone should emphasis on waste management as it is the basis of keeping the environment clean”.
“Humans have to think about the environment and the education system must educate students about it”, he said.
Kateel released a souvenir on environment. T Ramakrishna, general manager, electrical section, MRPL, was the guest of honour.
Sr Maria Prem D’Souza, principal of the college, Saramma E P, head of the department of zoology, and Emima David, convener of the seminar, were also present.
The seminar has eminent scientists and delegates from different colleges all over the state attending. Paper presentations and poster presentations by participants are also on the schedule. The seminar will conclude on Thursday September 24.
