Mumbai, Jan 1: Police denied permission to a 'cultural gathering' which planned to 'celebrate peace, unity and secularism' at Carter Road in Bandra. The gathering comprised of students and activist groups. However, the gathering took place on Tuesday evening where songs on unity were sung.
Activists alleged that the police initially asked them to remove references to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), an issue which created a major stir in the nation. The groups were also asked to submit censor board certificates for the bands who would be performing, Yalgaar, a Dalit Ambedkarite band, and Samta Kala Manch.
Lara Jesani, a Bombay high court lawyer who was also in the organising team claimed that their event was cut short by two hours.
