Margao (Goa), Dec 27: Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday appealed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take stringent action against the anti-CAA protestors who have attacked the railway property.

Goyal was speaking to reporters in Margao town of South Goa while addressing a press conference to support Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

“It is unfortunate that the public property was targeted (during anti-CAA protests). It also shows the mindset of the people who are instigating the violence. Some people were misguided,” the minister said.

“We have filed necessary complaints in police stations, largely happed in the West Bengal. I hope the WB government twill take the action. I appeal WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take stern action against the culprits,” he said adding that Indian Railways are yet to access the damage caused to its properties during the protests.

He said that the Railway Protection Force has been helping police to identify the culprits using various means like CCTV footage.

“Railways do not have the power to take these cases to the logical end. Local police have to take necessary action. RPF is following up with local police to identify miscreants. They also have CCTV video footage and I hope there is action is taken. I appeal to WB CM Mamata Banerjee to take firm action,’ he said.

Goyal said that the anger against CAA was misguided and instigated by political considerations.

“Now, people have seen through their design and realizing that their anger is baseless and there is no reason to worry,” he added.

“Giving citizenship to these people who were persecuted in neighbouring countries is not about political gain or loss it is humanitarian,” he said.
