Fish vendors protest against illegal sale on Valpoi Panaji road

Goa, Dec 17: Fish vendors stayed away from Valpoi municipal fish market on Monday protesting against illegal sale of fish on Valpoi – Panaji road. The vendors walked into the police station and Valpoi municipal council complaining that the illegal vendors are spoiling their business and urged for their immediate evacuation.

A fish vendor said that fish vendors from Karapur Tiskar – Sakhali have set up their stalls along the highway as they were asked to vacate Karapur Tiskar- Sakhali vicinity.

A vendor lamented that they have to throw their fish sometimes as nobody comes to the municipal fish market. The residents of Valpoi say that they do not go to the municipal market due to lack of parking facilities. VMC chairperson said that he cannot act against illegal vendors as the area is under the jurisdiction of Mauxi-Sattari panchayat. He said that illegal vendors can be allowed in the fish market if the market vendors do not object. Valpoi police inspector has warned of action against illegal vendors.
