Mangaluru, Dec 12: Aloysius BEd College, a leading institute of teacher's education in the city, organized a two-day Talents Day competition under the banner ‘celebrate your unique talents’.
Joshal Sweedal D’Souza, playback singer and TV artiste, Bejai, Mangaluru, was the chief guest. She spoke on the role of teachers in identifying and promoting the unique talents of the students after inaugurating the Talents Day 2019. She said, “Children with personal inadequacies and who are maladjusted in the school environment should be identified with their talents. Special care should be given to students who isolate themselves from others. School activities should be designed in such a way that every student takes part in it. A teacher is a motivator and a most important factor in shaping students’ potentialities.” Adding further to her speech she told the audience, to be a professional, one should have a positive attitude, to grab opportunities rather than wait for them. "One cannot become a singer or dancer overnight; it needs dedication, hard work and patience. Eagerness to learn is an intrinsic motivation that develops seriousness about bringing up one’s talent and creating a career."
Fr Vincent Pinto SJ, finance officer, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) presided over the function. Addressing the audience he said, "Conducting Talents Day in educational institutions will reinforce and enhance the confidence level of students. Schools and colleges can nurture talents of their students, because it is the platform for students to find out ‘what one is fit to do and to secure an opportunity to do it' He also said, there are plenty of people who have achieved success through pursuing their talent. In today’s context, talent development is an integral part of educational institutions; therefore, the teachers have a crucial function to help and encourage their students.
The two-day Talents Day consisted of nine cultural competitions, namely, theme dance, dry flower arrangement, rangoli, folk singing, creative writing, cooking without fire, western singing, creative advertisement and Mera Bharath Mahan (a variety cultural entertainment show).
The inaugural programme began with an invocation by Elizabeth (vice-president students’ council) and group. Dr Farita Viegas, principal, rendered the welcome address and introduced the chief guest. Joshna B, convenor, presented an overview of the two-day talent competitions. Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, director of the college, presided over the valedictory function and the chief guest, Fr Melwyn Lobo SJ, principal, Gonzaga CBSE School, presented prizes to the winners. Basti Latha compered the programme. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Sandhya, convenor of the programme.
