Mangaluru: Apolinaris D’Souza’s new Konkani Christmas album released

Mangaluru, Dec 10: A well-known music composer, lyric writer, singer, choir leader, recipient of title Salmaum Rayachea Kullyecho Sangeeth Sardhaar’ (Musician par excellence of the tribe of King Solomon), Apolinaris D’ Souza’s new Konkani Christmas album ‘Moriye Thun Zana Aslliygi? (Mary Did You Know?) was released on December 8 at Mount Carmel, Infant Jesus Shrine, during Christmas carol singing competition.

Fr Cyprian Fernandes, Fr Jossy D’Souza, Oswald D’Souza, brother of Apolinaris D'Souza, provincial superior of Arsulines Sr Rita Vaz, brother Suraj, singer Shilpa Cutinha, singer Joshal D’Souza, singer Rony Crasta, singer Stephen Cutinha, and Sylvian D’ Silva, were present at the venue to release the CD.



The event was compered by the trustee of Saregama Trust Simon Pais. He spoke about evergreen hymns such as Vandan Tuka somiyan, Argaan Tuka Somiyan, Jezu Jezu, Ye Ye Jezu Mogala, Undya waina sovem, Vetham Vetham Somiyan, Sasnaso Vishev Sorvespora thaka laboi, etc composed around 50 years ago by Apolinaris D’Souza which have influenced the hearts of Konkani community and are sung even today. Pais also spoke about the new CD that contains 18 Christmas songs.

Roshan D’Souza Angelore has arranged music for the album and many talented singers have rendered their voice for the album.

Fr Jossy D’souza asked the gathering to encourage all new singers by promoting and buying the CD and to sing the songs from this CD during the next competitions. He also thanked all supporters, sponsors, music arranger Roshan D’Souza Angelore.
