Mumbai, Dec 10 (IANS): The ruling Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress' Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate defeated the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee in its first poll win in the state from Parli in Beed.
The MVA candidate Ashrubai Kirawale defeated BJP's Ashabai Chopade in a by-election for the post of Sarpanch in Sirsala village on Sunday.
The poll loss is also considered a big psychological jolt to the BJP after its candidate and former minister Pankaja Munde lost the last Assembly elections to her cousin, NCP's Dhananjay Munde.
"Sirsala is the biggest village panchayat in entire Parli sub-district. The bypolls for the sarpanch's post was held on Sunday and it marks the first big victory for the MVA," said Dhananjay Munde.
MVA's Kirawale bagged the seat by a margin of 1,395 votes, he added.
Meanwhile, the BJP announced on Sunday that it would go solo in the 2022 BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections and have started preparations for it.
