Bantwal, Dec 9: The state government has announced compensation of three lac rupees each to the families of three labourers who died in a landslide at Odiyoor in Kaorpady village on Saturday evening during construction work. The families of injured will get one lac rupees each.
During the visit of chief minister B S Yediyurappa, to Dharmasthala on Sunday, MLAs Rajesh Naik and Sanjeev Matandoor had taken up the matter with him through minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. Treating this as an accident, the compensation was announced immediately.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik Ulippadyguthu, visited the spot of the incident on Sunday. He also visited the house of labourer from Kapumajalu in Vittlapadnoor, Ramesh Madiwala, and consoled the family members. Puttur MLA Sanjeev Matandoor, too paid a visit to Odiyoor along with other leaders.
The bodies which were extricated from the soil and taken to the hospital at Deralakatte K S Hegde hospital, were released to the families on Sunday after post-mortem.
