Puttur, Dec 7: Lawrence D'Souza (69) from Aryapu village here, was killed after a motor bike hit him on Friday, December 6. The accident took place near Kammadi Mill at Mukrampady in the outskirts of the city on Mani-Mysuru highway at around 9.45 pm.

Lawrence was standing in mud road away from the highway at that time, it is said. The police said that the rider of a motor bike bearing Puttur registration number, identified as Mithun, who was riding it from Puttur towards Kumbra, on account of his recklessness, knocked down Lawrence D'Souza, after the bike deviated from the road and moved to extreme left.

Lawrence fell down, and suffered deep injuries to his left leg, right hand and head. Mithun too fell to the road with his two-wheeler and suffered injuries. Lawrence was taken to the government hospital in the city but the hospital authorities found that he had already died.

On the basis of complaint made by Mathias D'Souza from Volamogru here, a case under section 279 and 304 (A) of Indian Penal Code was registered in the rural police station here.

Accident must be considered as accident if the riders is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If he is under the influence of alcohol or drugs it must be considered as murder. For giving licence without proper test, then RTO and the relevant agents who serve these RTO's must be put in the jail. I feel sad about the death, which has happened for no fault of the victim.

First off It's Mangalore or Mangaluru and not Mangala Uru, do not change the name of the place as you like. What happened here is an accident because riders recklessness which is unfortunate. And not because "there is no end of perverts in puttur" ( It's Puttur not puttur !!).. Watch what you say here ... Anything at all...!!

Our goberment .... do not want to act on killers ,rapists and criminals which is the main reason there is no fear of law. All the ruling elites busy in looting and accumulating and have no time for common citizens. Walking on our roads is like playing with life and death. God help this country.

They take 500 to 1000 and give license to anyone, even if they don't know basic driving principles. Even professional drives such as auto, van, bus drives don't follow rules....only lucky can survive....
