Udupi, Dec 1: Health inspector of Udupi city limits raided a truck that was dumping the garbage by the side of the road and fined the driver of the vehicle.
This incident occurred near Karavali Bypass that falls under the limits of Udupi city municipality. A truck, transporting marble stones, was seen dumping the garbage by the side of the road. The health inspector, who was alerted by some citizen, conducted lightning raid and slapped a fine of Rs 2,300. He also made the truck driver to load the garbage that was dumped on the road, back into his truck.
So far around Rs 50,000 has been collected in the form of fines from people who throw garbage at various places in the city.
"If anyone is seen dumping solid waste in any area, case will be filed against such person or people according to the Solid Waste Management Rules of 2016 and additional fine will be slapped," said Anand Kallolikar, Municipal Commissioner in a publication.
