Bantwal, Nov 29: In the early hours of Friday November 29, a gang forced its way into the residence of a gram panchayat (GP) member at Meramajalu, and attacked him and his wife with sword. The gang escaped after leaving both of them seriously injured.
The GP member who came under this savagely attack happens to be Yogeesh Prabhu, a panchayat member residing at Meramajalu, and his wife, Shobha. The attack happened at around 4 am today. Both the injured have been admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru.
Yogeesh Prabhu, in his complaint to Bantwal rural police station, named the attackers as Prasad Belchada, a rowdy sheeter from Meramajalu, and two of his accomplices, with a sword.
Belchada and his two friends reached Yogeeshi Prabhu's residence at 4 am on Friday and knocked at the door, duly requesting Prabhu to open the door. As soon as the door was opened, the gang forced its way into the house, and Belchada launched an attack with sword, he said. Shobha, who was there at the time, too was injured.
Bantwal assistant superintendent of police, Saidulu Adavat, police circle inspector, T D Nagaraj, and rural sub-inspector, Prasanna, along with other personnel visited the spot. They are now making efforts to arrest the accused.
