Mangaluru, Nov 27: Electric short circuit spread fire in a house at Chokkabettu near Suratkal on Tuesday November 26. As the fire destroyed things and valuables in the house. The family lost about eight lac rupees, it is gathered.

This tragedy happened in the rented house of Santhosh Acharya, which is owned by Leelavathi Yogeesh. Acharya as usual had left home to work. When his wife and three children were sitting outside, they noticed smoke in their bedroom. They shouted for help. The neighbours rushed to help but the fire was too huge. Fire brigade personnel came later and worked to douse the flames.

By the time the fire came under control, the fire had destroyed two cupboards including items inside, and clothes including gold ornaments worth lacs of rupees. Even sale deed, Adhar cards, passports and other documents were charred.

The revenue officials who visited the spot, assessed the loss at eight lac rupees.
