Udupi, Nov 27: Judge of the special court for POCSO cases here, C M Joshi, pronounced the quantum of sentence to two persons who the court had earlier held guilty of gang raping a girl in 2016. Through the judgement delivered on Tuesday November 26, the court sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
The accused had been declared guilty by the court on November 20. It announced quantum of sentence on Tuesday, as per which Padam Singh Seni (28) and Mukesh Seni (20), tile workers from Rajasthan, have been given jail terms of 20 years each.
The accused, who knew the victim's father well as he too worked with them, were charged with dragging her away from her home on July 8, 2016 night when her father was away, and raping her in a rented house at Badagabettu here. The case was registered on July 10, 2016.
The guilty have also been fined Rs 60,000 for various offences like gang rape, abduction, posing life threat, and offences under POCSO Act. In case of failure to pay fine, they will have to undergo 33 months of additional imprisonment. Special POCSO public prosecutor Vijaya Vasu Poojary, had represented the prosecution in the case.
The judge said that the girl is eligible claim one lac rupees as compensation from legal services authority.
