Bengaluru: State tells high court that it plans 35 foreigners’ detention centres

Bengaluru, Nov 27: The state government told the high court on Tuesday November 26 that it will set up 35 temporary foreigners’ detention centres all over the state for keeping illegal immigrants arrested in the state.

This information was given to the high court which took up a plea for bail filed by Babul Khan and Tania, said to be citizens of Bangladesh, who have been arrested on tie charge of illegally settling down in the city. A single judge bench of the high court presided over by Justice K N Phaneendra heard this bail application.

The government stated that it has already identified land and buildings at 35 spots in the state for this purpose. It said that a permanent facility for the detention of illegal immigrants has been set up at Sondekoppa near Nelamangala in Bengaluru rural district which has a capacity of 200. It also stated that a temporary detention centre with capacity of 15 is being built at Sarjapur in the city.
