Bengaluru, Nov 26: The results of the upcoming by-poll will decide about the survival of the BJP government in the state. There is apprehension among the opposition parties about the possibility of BJP leaders resorting to another round of Operation Lotus if the party fails to muster enough seats in the by-poll.
The BJP says it hopes to bag all the 15 seats going to the by-poll but the prediction made by the internal survey has bothered BJP leaders. If the party fails to get at least 12 seats in the by-poll, the party may try to poach more legislators from the Congress and the JD(S) as per current indications. This has worried the leaders of the Congress and the JD(S).
Although some JD(S) leaders have been saying that they will not allow the current government to fall, it is widely believed that these leaders may be saying this to void its legislators from joining the BJP. It is said that the top leadership of the BJP has already asked the state leaders to prepare a list of legislators who may be ready to cross over and what are their demands.
The statement made by BJP general secretary that the state government will not collapse at any cost, has dropped enough hints about the things to come.. Addressing an election meeting for Yashwanthpur BJP candidate, S T Somashekhar, on Sunday November 25, he said that some JD(S) MLAs are in contact with the BJP and the details of how many are in touch with his party and how will the political polarization will happen would be known after the by-poll result is declared. "JD(S )leaders have been speaking of protecting the BJP government as they are concerned about holding back their legislators during the political polarization," he analyzed.
