Udupi, Nov 25: Information regarding E-Sand App was provided by deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha to the public and truck owners in the presence of Lalaji R Mendon, MLA of Kaup and K Raghupati Bhat, MLA of Udupi, near Hiriyadka panchayat on Monday, November 25. The app was officially introduced by the DC for the first time in Hiryadka, Udupi.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said, “When public pays Rs 5,000 through online, the sand will be supplied to their home. An OTP will be generated to the customers’ mobile number which needs to be noted and entered by the driver in the app. After following these simple procedures, the lorry owner receives the payment to his respective bank account through online transaction. Already 15 Lorries are registered and 50-60 loads of sand will be provided to the public. In the coming days, a similar app will be developed for CRZ also and the public will be provided sand at cheaper price.”
E-Sand App grant letters were handed over to the respective lorry owners by the DC on the occasion.
K Raghupathi Bhat, MLA of Udupi, said, “District Administration’s effort in providing sand to the public is finally successful. In some places sand bar is recognized and in such places, where three lac micro tonne will be found, it will be sent to KCZM. If the permission is granted there, public can get sand. Under the term of previous DC, the district administration failed to find sand bars in the respective places and hence under the leadership of present DC, the sand bars are being recognized and as a result sand exports are taking place in Udupi district.”
Respective officer of the department said, “There are four check posts at Puttige bridge, Kukkehalli cross, Karkala road and Devadiga Bhavana, Hiriyadka. The CCTV cameras are installed in all the check posts and home guards are appointed to prevent the illegal export of sand. For 10 metric tonnes of sand which will be carried in big lorries Rs 3,000 rupees will be charged for 20 kms and additional of Rs 50 will be charged if the kilometre gets exceeded. In the case of medium sized lorries Rs 2,000 will be charged for 20 kms and Rs 40 will be charged in case the kilometre is exceeded. In the case of small lorries, Rs 1,500 will be charged for 20kms and an additional of Rs 35 will be charged if the kilometres exceed.”
Officials from te department of Mines and Earth Sciences were present on the occasion.
