Mangaluru, Nov 25: During the probe into the murderous attack on former minister and MLA, Tanveer Sait, at Mysuru, the police have found out that there is threat to the life of former minister and Mangaluru MLA, U T Khader, too.
In the light of this information, the police have extended security to Khader.
Murder attempt was made on Tanveer Sait during his participation in a private function on the night of November 17 at Mysuru. The attacker, Farhan Pasha, was nabbed by the police. During his questioning, he had informed that there is threat perception to the life of Khader, who is currently on campaign for the upcoming by-poll. The police have got information that a communal outfit has been working to eliminate important Muslim political leaders in the state including Tanveer Sait.
Additional police security by way of one police inspector, a sub-inspector, and three police constables along with security vehicle have been deployed for Khader's security.
On getting information, home minister, S R Bommai, called Khader and asked him to avail of the police security. It is said that when city police commissioner, Dr P S Harsha, conveyed this information to Khader, he had reportedly asked the police department against extending to him any security. But the police have taken precautionary measures on the basis of intelligence output.
Sources say that in the past, a gunman had been provided to Khader for security purposes but he had refused to utilize his services.
Khader, who is busy with the by-poll campaign now, said that he is not bothered too much about the threat perception. Deputy commissioner of police here, Arunamshugiri, said that Khader will be extended security if found necessary here, adding that the MLA is currently at Mysuru.
