Mangaluru: Smart City - One-way plan on Clock Tower-RTO being shelved

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 22: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, has asked the officials to complete all works under the Smart City Project at the earliest.

She was speaking after presiding over Smart City inter-departmental meeting held at the auditorium of her office on Thursday, November 21.

She expressed resentment at the fact that some main roads in the city are pending development because of objections raised by land owners. She asked the officials to hasten the process of land transfer through TDR. She instructed the officials to have regular liaison with various departments like railway and national highways authority and get work done at a fast pace rather than writing letters and wait for replies. She said that unless communication between departments is established and work is followed up regularly, execution of plans will get delayed.

About the housing scheme at Shaktinagara under Ashraya scheme facing problems because of deemed forest rules, she directed the officials either to get the problem addressed or identify land somewhere else.

She also asked KUDCEMP authorities to quicken the pace of underground drainage works.

Managing director of Smart City Project, Muhammed Nazeer, informed that there is strong objection from the police department for the proposal to turn RTO -clock tower stretch into one-way traffic as important offices like deputy commissioner's office and fire brigade are located on this route and on account of frequent visit of VVIPs to Nehru Maidan. He said that as the police feel that this proposal is not practicable, the issue of dropping of this proposal would be considered.

City corporation commissioner Shanadi Ajit Kumar Shetty and other officials were present.

We need not worry about deputy commissioner's office and VVIP's visiting Nehru Maidan. If Fire service is having a problem shift them somewhere else which is convenient. One way traffic is inconvenient to deputy commissioner and VVIP's who come out of office once in blue moon shall never be considered for such development works.

It is good to observe that The present D.C. is keen on all round improvements in the City of Mangalore. At the same time she is open to reasoning.

It is stated that as the police feel that this proposal is not practicable, the issue of dropping of this proposal may be considered.

It is also pertinent to consider shifting final destination of long distance bus services to be terminated outside City limits.

Madam, kindly investigate the reason behind construction of Bus Stands spending lakhs of public money though there are bus stands constructed by NHAI. Hope that you will try to control over bribe and will see that the city will use the smart city fund reasonably.

What about the roads in Falnir area, just left after aquring land from people without giving a single Rupee. The works are pending. There is no proper footpath at the Navbharat circle at Kodialbail. There land should be aquired for construction of footpath. It will be good for pedestrians and will surely reduce traffic. Now the elections of the MCC are over and work should begin at the Falnir area.

I request with our DC to shieft the service bus stand first. Then only our smart city works will start. But no DC nor any other authorities have succeeded in shifting service bus stand. If she do this first, then I will appreciate her work. After5pm state BANK upto LHH road looks like a intra state or inter state bus Hadda.

    Dear Madam,

This land, which is that of monkeys (mangagala+ooru=mangaluru), will never improve and citizens are never bothered. We are happy with communal issues and biting each other's flesh.

    Development gaya baad mein.. Jai...whom?

Instead of ionstructing others, she need to be proactive and solve major problems! Non cooperation between departments is age old story! There is absolutely no mutual communication between Mescom, Telecom, PWD, NHAI or forest departments! If they had intention to solve public issues.....Mangalore was smart city long ago! Our MP/ MLAs are no different!
