Bengaluru, Nov 22: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made arrangements to issue Fastags in all the toll plazas in the country free of cost. This facility is available from November 22 and December 1 this year. This move has been undertaken to encourage vehicle owners to adapt to the new scheme quickly.
Union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, gave this information.
The Fastags will also be available free of cost at regional transport offices and transport hubs. It is gathered that NHAI will meet the security deposit amount of Rs 150 in these cases. The minister put the cost the government will have to bear on this account to be nearly Rs 200 crore.
The Fastags will have o be linked by the vehicle owners to their bank accounts so that toll amount is debited to their accounts every time their vehicle passes through a toll plaza.
