Puttur, Nov 20: Quick action by the Puttur rural police station personnel has resulted in the arrest of the culprit of the double murder case that sent shock waves in Kuriya near here. The accused was arrested within 24 hours of the incident coming to light.
Karim Khan, resident of Kattattaru in Kuriya village and known to the deceased family is the person who is under police custody now.
According to the information shared by SP B M Laxmiprasad, accused Karim had entered the house of deceased Koggu Saheb on the night of Sunday, November 17 at around 11 pm, through the gap between the roof tiles and wall, with the intention of stealing. When he was stealing valuables, the inmates of the house woke up. As the accused is known to the family, he killed them in order to keep his identity a secret.

In addition, accused Karim Khan had some verbal argument with the deceased Koggu Saheb with regards to some money matters earlier. So accused Karim used the sickle knife to murder Sheikh Koggu Saheb (70), his granddaughter Shamia Bhanu (16) and Khatijabi (65), wife of Koggu Saheb. While Koggu Saheb and Shamia Bhanu died on the spot, Khatijabi was grievously injured and is being treated at a hospital.
After attacking the members of the house, Karim khan, the accused, stole gold ornaments weighing around 30 grams and Rs 6,000 in cash and escaped from the rear door of the house.
Puttur rural police station personnel, who started investigating the case, got a major clue from Bheem Shen, a beat personnel, and were able to zero in on Karim Khan and arrest him on the evening of Tuesday, November 19.
The accused has received injury to his hand during the scuffle that ensued when he killed the inmates of the house. He is being given treatment.
