Kasargod, Nov 18: The Bethany congregation is approaching its centenary year. As part of the celebrations, the congregation has taken up the project of building 100 houses for the poor. The Mangaluru province inaugurated the first house under the project at Kollangana in Kasargod district on November 18. The house was presented to George and Therese Monteiro and their son Punith.
Sr Cecilia Mendonca, provincial superior of Mangaluru province inaugurated the house. Fr Jaison blessed the house and led the prayer ceremony. A formal programme was held on the occasion. Sr Cecilia Mendonca was honoured by the family. Wilson Rodrigues, the contractor, was honoured by Sr Cecilia Mendonca and the family members for completing the house construction in a span of four months.
Sr Cecilia Mendonca in her presidential address appreciated the hard work of the contractor, the workers, the family members and the parish youth for their strenuous labour to complete the construction of the house. She gratefully remembered the donors who supported the project. She handed over the keys of the house to the family. She called upon the members to build their family with prayer, unity, love and compassion on the foundation of God’s word.
Eugene Ravi, vice president of St Thomas Church, Kollangana, compered the programme. Anitha welcomed the gathering. Punith thanked the guests and the participants. Sr Flavia Wilma, the superior of Bethany Convent, Kollangana and other members were present on the occasion. Sr Anna Maria, the provincial councilor and Sr Lizzie, the province procurator were present. Praveen, the ward leader along with other ward members graced the occasion.
