Mangaluru, Nov 17: The Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) had its annual reunion for members and well-wishers on Saturday, November 16 Lobo’s Riverview, Morgan’s Gate in city.
The event started with prayer by Fr Ben Britto , Capuchin.
In their welcome speech Patsy Lobo and Capt Prinson Pais briefed the activities of CASK and its new projects. They highlighted the projects like purified drinking water facilities in schools, provision of footwear for barefoot school children, promotion of organ and whole body donations and supporting eye donation campaigns and eye camps in collaboration with Fr Muller Medical College and personality development programmes in schools and colleges.
In her presidential address Nayana Fernandes, president of CASK, briefly summarized the various projects undertaken by CASK. She said, “CASK has trained around 3,500 students in schools and colleges in and outside Mangaluru. Teacher enrichment programme started in 2018, in which, 65 teachers from two leading institutions of Mangaluru are covered so far. Under home for the homeless project, the association has supported three homes. Under scholarships for school and college students, 50 to 100 students per year are sponsored mainly for books, transport and extra coaching. In support to Asha Deepa, home for the differently-abled children is constructed in Chikkamagaluru. Seminars, symposiums and essay writing competitions are held in schools and colleges. Contributions are given towards anti-snake-bite treatment, medical treatment etc. In addition, the association is involved and contributed towards various causes like suicide prevention, mental health, gender equality and human rights,”
“CASK recognizes true leaders and promotes them in society. The majority of members of this association are themselves leaders in various respected fields. This year 145 new members joined CASK and the current strength is 1258. I appreciate the new members for their generosity towards the society. They can share their ideas with office bearers and come close to association for the betterment of our society.” Nayana added.
The enchanting venue set the mood for four hours of entertainment ending with sumptuous dinner. Traditional fashion show, dance, music and thought provoking skits were highlights of the event.
