Mangaluru, Nov 16: BJP state president and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has set a new deadline for the Pumpwell flyover. While inspecting the flyover with officials and corporators on Saturday, November 16, Kateel urged the NHAI officials to complete the flyover by December 31, and scheduled the inauguration in first week of January next year.
“Due to several technical reasons, there was delay in the construction work of Thokkottu and Pumpwell flyover. After putting pressure, Thokkottu flyover was completed. In the month of February, we have conducted meeting with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) chaired by Nithin Gadkari's private secretary. We have given the deadline for the completion of Pumpwell flyover,” he said.
He also said," Navayuga Company faced financial issues. However, all issues are cleared in the meeting. All work related to bank are done and money is released for the work. There was also a demand to construct an underpass between Indiana Hospital and Father Muller Convention Centre which got approved last year. It has now been completed.
“The work has to be done in speedy way. We have already conducted three review meetings so far. The asphalting of the service road will start from Wednesday. Navayuga should hand over the flyover by December 31, 2019. The flyover will be inaugurated in the first week of January 2020,” said Nalin Kumar Kateel.
The deadline for Pumpwell flyover was breached eight times. The flyover had to be completed in March 2013.
NHAI officer Sheshu Mohan, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar, former corporator Asha D Silva, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Sudeer Shetty Kannur and others were present.
