Mangaluru: ‘Master Chef Contest’ held at Expert College

Mangaluru, Nov 16: A unique competition in a pre-university educational setting, to explore and display the culinary skills of students and parents together viz, ‘Master Chef Contest 2019’ was jointly organised by the Expert PU College, Kodialbail and Spices N Chefs, a unit of Spade Integrated Services.

After a tough preliminary round, six teams were selected out of 25 teams. In the final, each team consisted of three students and one parent, required to prepare Soup, Salad, Main course and Dessert within 90 minutes. They cooked under the watchful eyes of the judges and prepared delicious dishes ranging from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Dewabrat Mandal, executive chef, The Ocean Pearl Hotel, Mangaluru, inaugurated the competition by adding tadka. In his inaugural address he wished good luck to all the participants.

Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institutions presided over the function. Addressing the gathering he said, “Irrespective of any career children choose, cooking is the pre-requisite and it will enhance the possibility of success in life.”

Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions opined that of all artistic skills in this world, cooking is the first prototype and having universal appeal. On the judging panel Janet Francis DSilva, proprietor of Tempting Sandwiches, Arthi Pai, proprietor of Tiny Delights, Sachin, a faculty at Milagres College of Hotel Management and Hooriya, proprietor of Cravin Cakeaholic were present.

Deepika A Nayak, Ramachandra Bhat, principal, Expert PU College, Kodialbail, Dinesh Palliyil, managing director, Edwin Castelino, director, SPADE Integrated Services, Rajesh Thazham, unit manager, Spices & Chefs and Prathibha R Prabhu, lecturer in Biology were present.

Zita D’Souza, head of the department of English and Niha Faheem Noor, department of Chemistry, Expert PU College, compered the programme. Vote of thanks was proposed by Preetham (F & B Executive, Spices & Chefs).

The winning team of Master Chef Contest 2019 was Team Pistachio and the team members were Ayesha, Ayesha Arif, Shama and Nisha. The first runner-up was Team Almond and the team members were Yashas, Aaquid, Pranam and Suma Shetty. The second runner-up was Team Anjeer and the team members were Shubham, Ajay Prabhu, Binit Sarkar and Jayalaxmi.
