Mangaluru Nov 14: Senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary's prediction that BJP will sweep the Mangaluru City Corporation 2019 election has come true. BJP secured 44 seats, while Congress managed to bag only 14 seats.
A week ago, B Janardhana Poojary, predicted that BJP will win the MCC polls and Congress would cry on November 14. In the last MCC election, BJP had secured only 20 seats. However, now the party has managed to bag twice more than that.
Since the formation of MCC in 1984, this is only the second time BJP has come to power after 2007. Now, BJP is ruling in Centre, State as well as in the Mangaluru City Corporation.
Recently, when Congress had announced the candidates for MCC polls, there was an internal fight among party members. Unsatisfied leaders, who were denied tickets, quit from the party along with their supporters. This is attributed to be the reason for the five time victorious Congress facing defeat in the 2019 election.
BJP fielded new faces in this election and managed to secure majority seats.
After Nalin Kumar Kateel became the state president of BJP, it was matter of honour for BJP to gain upper hand in the elections. BJP MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Bharath Y Shetty worked hard to ensure BJP wins. The MLAs conducted campaigns in a disciplined manner, were active on social media and distributed tickets to its candidates. Internal conflicts did not come out in public unlike Congress and hence the polls became a cakewalk for the BJP.
