Udupi, Nov 12: Sub-inspector of Udupi Anantha Padmanabha has been suspendered by superintendent of police Nisha James on Monday night, November 11 for not filing an FIR and not informing the communal issue caused in Bhujanga Park to the higher authorities.
It may be recalled, on November 2 at around 8 pm Sunil Poojary, Rakesh Suvarna and their friends assaulted Shivani and her friends from another communities. A statement was written at the police station. But as per the request of Shivani’s father, complaint was not registered. Also, Shivani and her friends’ pictures were downloaded from Facebook and posted in different social media platforms by Sunil and his mates. It is reported that no action was taken by sub inspector Anantapadmanabha against this and as a result he was suspended from his duty.
Raghupati Bhat, MLA of Udupi, said that he strongly opposes the move of SP Nisha James. “Town SI Anantapadmanabha has been a very efficient police personnel in Udupi. He has investigated the issue and had taken preventive measures so that such events do not recur again. In spite of this, he has been suspended from his service for not filing a FIR and not reporting the issue to the higher authorities,” he said. The MLA said that he had a word with the home minister of Karnataka as well as the IG regarding the issue and requested them to bring back Anantapadmanabha back into service in Udupi. He also questioned Nisha James move and said that there are many criminal acts taking place regarding Matka and ganja in respective towns away from Udupi. He asked why the respective sub-inspectors from those areas have not been suspended for not reporting the issues to the SP.
