Mangaluru, Nov 12: A new temporary special train between Vijayapura-Mangaluru-Vijayapura (no. 07327/07328) was flagged off on Monday November 11. This happens to be the first train that connects coastal region with north Karnataka via Malnad region.
The train was flagged off at Vijayapura at 6 pm on Monday by local MP, Ramesh Jigajinagi. The train will reach Mangaluru Junction station at 12.40 pm on Tuesday. It will begin its return journey at 4.30 pm the same day.
The train will leave Vijayapura at 6 pm, and reach Mangaluru at 12.40 pm the next day. It leaves Mangaluru Junction at 4.30 pm and reaches Vijayapura at 11.45 am the next day. The train is equipped with one AC 2-tier coach, one AC 3 tier coaches, six sleeper class coaches, four general second class coaches, two luggage and a brake van coaches.
This train will be in operation till January 1, 2020. It will have stops at Bantwal, Kabaka, Puttur, Subrahmanya Road, Sakleshpur, Hassan, Arasikere, Kadur, Davanagere, Harihar, Ranebennur, Haveri, Hubballi, Gadag, Hole Alur, Badami, Bagalakote, Almatti and Basavana Bagewadi stations.
This train will be particularly beneficial to people from north Karnataka coming to the coast for work and those who have to travel to Hassan. A press release said that south-western railway has introduced this train service considering the density of traffic from both the sides.
