Bengaluru: IMA scam - CBI officials unearth Rs 200 crore benami property

Bengaluru, Nov 12: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials, who have intensified their probe into multi-crore IMA scam, have found benami property worth Rs 200 crore at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.

The officials, who have been searching for benami property connected with the case, found landed property including farm house and bungalows at Chittoor. It is learnt that property documents relating to this property were found from the residence of Vijay Shankar, who has been suspended relating to the case, during the raid on the residences of 13 persons recently.

A diary pertaining to IMA scam was recovered at the house of former deputy commissioner of police (east) in which mention has been made about Rs 82 crore transaction. More investigation has been undertaken, it is said.

Houses of inspector general of police, Hemant Nimbalkar, CID deputy superintendent of police, E B Sridhar, DCP (east), Ajai Hillori etc were raided. Hillori's residence at Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, which happens to be his native place, was also raided.

It is said that the government is interested in auctioning the properties belonging to main accused in the scam, Mansoor Khan. Mansoor also has properties abroad, it is said. He also has over 25 sites in the name of his wife and some relatives. The district administration extended support to the competent authority in valuation of the properties. Mansoor's assets worth Rs 350 crore have been taken into possession so far. He also has over 35 sites in the names of various relatives.

The government proposes to auction properties of Mansoor Khan, in the state and elsewhere. The auction proceeds are proposed to be distributed to people who lost money after investing with IMA.
