Bengaluru, Nov 11: Leader of the opposition in the assembly, Siddaramaiah, in a lengthy letter addressed to the President, has sought time to meet him to complain against union home minister, Amit Shah, and Karnataka chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, accusing them of acting against the people's mandate and constitutional aspirations.
In the letter, he has explained about the circumstances in which the Congress and the JD(S) formed the coalition government after the fractured mandate, and that after the Lok Sabha election this year, on account of conspiracy by BJP leadership, 17 MLAs from the coalition partners resigned from their respective seats. He pointed out that they stayed in a five star hotel at Mumbai for about two and half months. He said that these MLAs neither met their family members, failed to take part in the all-important budget session of the assembly and failed to visit the constituencies they represented. On the basis of complaints from two parties of the coalition, the speaker disqualified them from their assembly memberships under schedule 10 of the constitution, he stated.
He also mentioned that the disqualified legislators approached the Supreme Court against their disqualification and also about Yediyurappa's disclosure at the BJP core committee meeting at Hubballi on October 27 about the fact that his party came to power because of the sacrifice and resignation of 17 legislators from other parties. "Yediyurappa agreed in the said statement that under instructions and guidance of Amit Shah, the above operation was conducted. The statement clearly indicates that the centre has misused enforcement directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and income tax department. I request you, as the constitutional head of the country, to take steps to see that these leaders are ousted from their respective positions," he said.
Siddaramaiah also said that a delegation comprising him, president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Dinesh Gundu Rao, leader of the opposition in the council, S R Patil, and several party leaders want to meet him, and requested him to fix the time for the same.
