Mysuru, Nov 10: Though three years have passed since demonetization, public still puts banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 face value to the offertory boxes of temples.
Near Rs 20,000 worth of old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 that are banned in November 2016 were found in the offertory box of Sri Nanjundeshwara Temple of Nanjangud. The counting of the money in the offertory box of the temple was held recently. More than Rs 96 lac was collected in the Hundi (offertory box) of the temple in just one and a half months.
In addition to Rs 96 lac in cash, 34 grams of gold and 1.800 kg of silver and eight foreign currency notes were also found in the offertory box of the renowned Sri Nanjundeshwara temple of Nanjanagud.
