Mangaluru, Nov 8: The countdown has begun for ‘Festival of Charity’ a day-long mini carnival organised by Little Sisters of the Poor at Maroli in Mangaluru. The event is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 10.
Fr Victor Machado, parish priest, Kulshekar Church, will inaugurate the event. Edward Saldanha, one of the benefactors of the institution will grace the event as chief guest. The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8.30 am.
The carnival is organised for a noble cause and will host a variety of food stalls, which include homemade delicacies, take away food, assorted pastries and savories, ice creams, exciting games, request songs, gift hampers and handicrafts items. The music will be an additional entertainment. The entry will be free.
The Little Sisters of the Poor are taking care of around 70 inmates of both sexes, aged above 65 years and belonging to all religions. They provide them with basic amenities without any charge for the rest of their lives. The institution aims to provide them holistic health care, which includes physical, mental, moral and spiritual, and thus assist them to spend their time with dignity, peace and joy in the twilight period of their life.
Two nuns of this institution visit the surrounding areas of Mangaluru daily and collect funds in cash and kind to meet the minimum requirements of their residents. It is solely by the public charity and generosity that the institution manages to meet the daily needs of this facility.
