Mangaluru, Nov 8: ‘Pre-Unique 2019’, a glorious two-day fest of intellect and culture celebrating uniqueness and unity, was inaugurated on November 8 at the Pretorium of St Aloysius PU College. Students from about 40 different institutions are participating in the college fest.
The mega event was inaugurated by the chief guests Adhvithi Shetty and Ashvithi Shetty, former St Aloysius PU College Students and Sandalwood actresses, by spinning the Wheel of Colour, which represents the colours of life.
Adhvithi Shetty and Ashvithi Shetty reminisced their time in SAPUC. They said that it is every student’s responsibility to identify his/her uniqueness. They motivated students to follow their passion and work towards realizing their dreams. They urged the students to strike a balance between academics and extracurricular activities. They stressed that the College events are the platform to discover their potentials.
In his Presidential address, Dr Praveen Martis S J, Principal of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore quoted Dr Abdul Kalam on the importance of dreams, thoughts and actions and their interconnectedness. Dr Martis also epitomized the ethos and three C’s (Competence, Creativity and Commitment) of Jesuit Education.
Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, Principal of St Aloysius P U College appreciated the efforts of the students and the staff for meticulously organizing the event. He said, “St Aloysius PU College has always provided equal opportunity for academic excellence and artistic creativity. Pre-Unique gives ample opportunities for the students to interact with the participants of other institutions, thus helping them learn and grow.”
The inauguration ceremony was followed by a medley of diverse events and competitions. This year, the special attraction of the fest is the introduction of ‘Nirmaan’, a science model making competition cum exhibition and ‘Carnival’ with an array of games and food stalls.
Asha D’Souza, co-convener of Pre-Unique welcomed the gathering and the vote of thanks was proposed by Student convener Simona Fernandes. Also present on the dais were the finance officer, Fr Vinod Paul SJ, vice principals Muralikrishna GM and Charlotte D’Souza and the staff convener Denzil Machado.
