Mangaluru, Nov 8: The protest undertaken by junior doctors since some days, alleging assault on doctors of Minto Eye Hospital, Bengaluru, has grown into a major issue. The junior doctors, who are unrelenting, have intensified their stir. As a result, outpatient departments (OPD) of private hospitals in the city would not be functioning on Friday November 8.

President of Mangaluru branch of Indian Medical Association, Dr Annaiah Kulal, and his Udupi branch counterpart, Dr Umesh Prabhu, said that they condemn the attack on doctors. "To condemn the attack, it has been decided to suspend the functioning of OPDs of private hospitals on Friday. Doctors will be providing emergency services duly wearing back bands," they stated.

Medical superintendent of district Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru, Rajeshwari Devi, and Udupi district hospital district surgeon, Dr Madhusudan Nayak, said that in-patient and out patient services of these hospitals will be provided normally.

Sources said that OPD service at KMC Hospital Manipal would be available as usual.

Doctors are behaving like rickshaw drivers... Resorting to strikes ... They will lose value.. If a doctor gets assaulted, they should pursue legal / police..not go on strike where patients suffer....

Take steps to protect the doctors because doctor is no God. If a patient dies it does not mean you beat the doctor to deal with your loss. Given the PM himself can't slap a man with or without a reason , then how come some goons can assault doctors. When the administration fails to protect a professional community then they have every right to protest for the protection of their colleagues. If medical negligence has taken place, there is a way under law to deal with it.

It's worldwide known that our doctors are really brilliant and have good rapport (except some black sheeps).

They spend their maximum time in studies and clinics without food and bath for patients so called their customers ! They get refreshed their knowledge timely with CME/CDE programs.
This is the time for add KARATE, JUDO and KUNGFU in their curriculum program.Continued defense program must be conducted by our medical and dental collages.
