Mangaluru, Nov 6: Chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, R Selvamani, has issued an order, dissolving Haleangady gram panchayat administration in the taluk with immediate effect.
In his order, the chief executive officer stated that the order of dissolution has been issued as it has been found that Haleangady gram panchayat has failed to discharge its duties property, and it has been unable to provide basic amenities to the villagers. Further, it has been observed that development works in the panchayat have become sluggish, he noted.

The order states that this order has been issued under Karnataka Grama Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act section 262 (2).
The ruling party, BJP, had passed resolution in the zilla panchayat general session to dissolve Haleangady gram panchayat administration. This decision had come across widespread protest by the Congress members.
