Abu Dhabi, Nov 5: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, one of the premier organisations for Kannadigas in Abu Dhabi celebrated the 64th 'Karnataka Rajyotsava' at India Social and Cultural Centre Auditorium, Abu Dhabi, with jam-packed Kannadiga audience, who witnessed the grand day-long event on November 1.
The event started at around 10.45 am and was inaugurated by Annamalai, former deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Karnataka, along with other dignitaries by lighting the lamp.
Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha President Sarvotham Shetty spoke on the importance of celebrating Karnataka Rajyotsava and introduced Manohar Tonse and chief guest Annamalai.
Manohar Tonse welcomed the patron of UAE Kannadigas Padma Shree Dr B R Shetty along with Annamalai and all the guests present. Prayer was led by Bhavani Sharma and the group.
'Da Ra Bendre Prashasthi' was conferred on Manohar Tonse, member of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha for his contribution to Kannada journalism, literature and language. The felicitation comprised a shawl, flower bouquet, Mysuru Peta, citation, memento and fruit basket. Acknowledging the honour, he said, "I am thankful to Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha for giving me this award.”
Annamalai was felicitated with shawl, Mysuru Peta, flower bouquet, sanmana pathra and memento.

The event continued with a variety of cultural events showcasing the rich heritage of Karnataka presented by group songs by Mamatha and group, Dubai, Ronald D’souza and group, Abu Dhabi, Pushpanjali by Nidhi Nerlalakatte, folk dance baarayya baarayya and cinematic dance chanda chanda by Vidya Shetty, Ventriloquist by Suma Rajkumar, vachanagararu mathu dasaru by Veena Mallya, Bharathanatyam by Namitha and Group, about Karnataka by Shreyas Krishna, folk dance by Sangitha Savadi and group, group dance by Mamatha and team, Dubai, Bharathanatya dance by Nruthya Guru Mandasmitha and by Nidhi Neralakatte, Skit/dance by Rahul Udyavar and group, Children dance by Deepak and Team and Hanigavana Ghosti.
During the event the audio launch of upcoming Kannada Film “RA” was held. Meritorious students who excelled in their academics were felicitated on the occasion.
The day-long event was compered by Ananth and Suma Rajkumar.
