Kalaburagi, Nov 5: It is said that through district central bank here, names of farmers who had not availed loans from banks were included when claiming loan waiver amount from the government in the year 2017. This scam has happened in the Rs 50,000 per account loan waiver scheme of the Siddaramaiah government.
This irregularity was brought to the notice of the secretary in the department of cooperatives by registrar for cooperative societies in his report. The amount mentioned was a whopping Rs 17.92 crore. The report had brought to the notice of the government that the above claim was made with regard to 17,785 farmers who had not availed crop loans.
The then chief executive officer of district central cooperative bank and chief executive of cooperative of primary credit cooperative societies had falsely informed the apex bank in 2017 that these farmers had availed loans. The then manager of district cooperative central bank admitted in writing about this false claim.
Although the report recommended to suspend the then executive director of the bank, Gopal and to take further action against him, no steps have so far been taken and Gopal has since been promoted as joint registrar of cooperative societies, it is learnt.
The officials say that the report would be examined and suitable action would be taken against the guilty.
