Mangaluru, Nov 4: "It is very easy to speak any language but working for that language is difficult. Irene Rebello, who has taken the hardship to enrich the Konkani language, is being honoured by with Kalakar award. All should take inspiration from her and work for the growth of Konkani language," said Fr Francis Assisi Almeida, director of Sandesha Foundation.
Fr Almeida spoke after handing over the 15th Kalakar award, given by Carvalho Ghorannem-Mandd Sobhann, to Irene Rebello at the Kalangann of Shakthinagar in city on November 3.
Irene Rebello, who has worked extensively in the Voviyo Verse folk form of Konkani songs, was honoured with shawl, fruits, letter of honour, memento and Rs 25,000 in cash. Clara D'Cunha read the letter of honour.
Dr Pratap Naik did the introductory speech. Office bearers of Mandd Sobhann Eric Ozario, Luvi J Pinto and Naveen Lobo were present on the dais. Jasmine Lobo Agrar compered and rendered the vote of thanks for the stage programme.
After the felicitation of Irene Rebello, Dr Pratap Naik and Eric D'Souza Perampalli Dubai rang the bell to start the stage programme of 215th monthly repertory.
Musical nite 'Bindaas 2.0' by Danthi Brothers group was presented. Eric-Joyce Ozario, Arun-Anjeline Danthi, Dr Vincent Alva, Herald Tauro, Nihal Tauro, Iqbal, Nisha Danthi, Joel Attur, Valentina Castelino, Carol Danthi, Francis Rodrigues, Trinal Pinto and others sang melodious numbers and enthralled the audience.
Bindaas Pernal team presented comedy skit. Roshan Bela, Vijju, Raj and Raj rendered music. The programme was compered by Alwyn Pernal. Aman Christ rendered the vote of thanks.
