Mangalore, Aug 12: Panambur deputy superintendent of police Girish informed, that a gang of miscreants tried to murder a car driver and his friends at Krishnapur 8A block on Tuesday August 11.
It is said, a local man and his friends started an argument with a car driver from Krishnapura, named Krishna Shettigar (21), alleging that the car he was reversing on the narrow road had hit them. They also were about to assault Shettigar. After Shettigar said he would complain to the policemen, the accused seemed to be ready for a settlement. They invited Shettigar for talks on Tuesday. When Krishna Shettigar, accompanied by his friends Chennappa Kotian and Raghu Shetty, accused Chetan, Abubakker Salam and Dawood along with two others, reportedly invited them into a nursery and then tried to murder them with the help of glass splinters. All the three complainants sustained injuries in the assault.
One of the accused named Salam has been arrested. The gang that attempted to kill the three also faces an earlier case in connection with hemp trade. The policemen have been trying to find out the whereabouts of the missing people.
The deputy commissioner has asked the people not to lend an ear to rumours and conserve peace. The people have been barred from crowding in the market places and shops and those violating this instruction would be dealt with severely, he has warned.
