Mangaluru Nov 3: District Congress will approach state election commission and high court against BJP candidate from Pachanadi ward for misleading Mangaluru Tahsildar, said Congress MLC Ivan D’Souza.
Addressing media here on Saturday November 2, MLC Ivan D’Souza said," Sangeetha R Nayak is the BJP candidate from Pachanadi ward who misled the Mangaluru Tahsildar and obtained caste certificate and filed nominations for MCC elections. Pachanadi ward is reserved for women candidates from backward caste (A) and she was did not furnish proper facts,”
“Sangeetha R Nayak belongs to Muslim community and her name was Ishrath Begum and she embraced Hinduism after marrying Ravindra Nayak. In the year 2017, she changed her name to Sangeetha R Nayak through court. She misled the Mangaluru Tahsildar and obtained Muslim caste certificate to contest in the elections.” he added.
“We have objected to the same. The returning officer did not enquire into our complaint. So Sangeetha managed to furnish her documents when she filed nominations,” Ivan said.
"Sangeetha can contest only in the ward where the reservation is for general category and she cannot contest from Pachanadi as it is reserved for backward caste A. Here only persons from Muslim and Billawa community can contest. Sangeetha cannot be a Muslim as she became a Hindu. She cannot belong to in any caste of Hindu religion. Tahsildar issued caste certificate without doing any enquiry and action needs to be taken against Sangeetha R Nayak for hiding the real facts,”Ivan demanded.
“Now Congress will approach the state election commission and high court against Sangeetha R Nayak and urge to disqualify her from contesting the elections from Pachanadi ward,” informed Ivan D’Souza.
Former mayor Kavitha Sanil, spokesperson Mohammed Haneef and others were present.
