Udupi, Nov 2: Udupi district Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatan will hand over 'Gandhi Kuteera' (a new house) for a dalit woman named Nalini from Korangrapady, Udyavar as part of the concluding ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary celebrations.
The handover will happen on November 6, said Roshini Olivera, convener of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatan in a press meet at Udupi press club here on Saturday, November 2.
She is further said, Siddaramaiah, opposition party leader, Dinesh Gundu Rao, president, KPCC, Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha member, D R Patil, advisory board member, Narayana Swamy, Vishnunathan P C, AICC secretary, Ramesh Kumar, former speaker, other state Congress leaders Sandeep B M, AICC secretary, Rangaswamy, State convener of RGPRS, V Y Gorpade, B L Shankar, former MP, Dr Pushpa Amarnath, state president, Mahila Congress, Vijay Singh, MLC and other congress leaders Pramod Madhwaraj, U R Sabhapati, Vinay Kuamr Sorake, Gopal Poojar will be present.
The Congress state leaders will be welcomed at Hejamady at 9.30 am. A symbolic programme will be held, where the house will be handed over to Nalini in Korangrapady. RGPRS will also donate Rs 1 lac to Nalini to support her family. The new house is built at the cost Rs 4.80 lac in 550 sq ft area. Nalini is a widow and has two children. One of the child is physically abnormal and she does not have any source of income.
Roshini said that they have received 7 applications for housing construction in 10 blocks. According to the direction given by Meenakshi Natrajan, various pro-social service activities were conducted by the Sanghatan.
Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, district president said, “A huge convention will be held at 10.30 am on same day at Town Hall in Ajjarkad, which is organised by District Congress committee and RGPRS. Former speaker Ramesh Kumar speak on 'strengthening of Panchayat Raj' and hence motivate the youth.”
Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA, Somanath, convener, RGPRS, Bhaskar, Mary D'souza, Shashidhar Shetty, president, Kisan unit, Amritha, ZP member and Bhaskar Rao Kediyur were present at the press meet.
