Shirva parishioners end protest after assurance of bishop’s visit on Sunday

Update:

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi

Udupi, Nov 2: As per latest reports, Sunil Kabral representative of protesters, requested the protestors to come at 10 am tomorrow as the bishop has agreed to come and meet the protesting parishioners. Convinced by this, they dispersed from the church premises.

Accordingly the bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo will meet the protestors on Sunday, November 3 at 10 am.

Tight security has been provided at the church premises.

Earlier report

The protesters who gathered after the mass are still there. After many assurances from Parish priest Fr Denis D’Sa and senior police officers , they do not want to go from the church premises until bishop Dr Isaac Lobo comes to the spot.

Fr Denis assured that the bishop will come tomorrow. But they say they will wait for him now.

The protesters want to know why first information report (FIR) has not been filed yet. Mahesh Prasad, Karkala circle inspector, explained that it will take 6o days time from the time of incident as post-mortem report is yet to be received.

Meanwhile the protestors refused to talk to the members of parish council.

Police tried to convince the parishioners and said that a 10-member committee of police and church authority will have a discussion on Sunday. But the protesting parishioners were not agreeing for the same.

Samapath Kumar, in-charge circle inspector, Karkala, Nazeer Hussain from Karkala police station and others police personnel undertook tight security measures to control the situation.

Fr Dennis D’Sa, accompanied by police personnel, later spoke to the parishioners. He said that he too wanted justice to be done in the case. But the protesting parishioners wanted the bishop to come to the spot right away.

First report

Shirva parishioners gather in big numbers in front of church – Demand justice for Fr Mahesh

In an unexpected move, all of sudden in the evening nearly 1000 parishioners of Shirva parish gathered in the premises of church and demanded justice in Fr Mahesh D’Souza's suicide case.

Angry parishioners questioned church authority as to why church or diocese is not disclosing the reason for the death of Fr Mahesh.

Today, being a all souls day as per Catholic tradition, the special Mass was offered for the departed soul of Fr Mahesh, but soon after returning from cemetery, a group of people demanded parish priest Fr Denis D’Sa why no complaint has been lodged on the basis of the video footage in which a man in question, allegedly a political leader and three others, were seen visiting the church during the night of October 11 some minutes before or after the Fr Mahesh's suicide.

Fr D’Sa reportedly convinced the crowd that, Fr Mahesh D’Souza’s family has asked police not to pursue the case further as they do not have any doubt about the suicide. Now diocese is following the case, we are waiting for the final police report before communicating to the public.

Udupi superintendent of police Nisha James has been informed about the incident. She is personally expected to visit the premises to disperse the crowd along with police force.

More details will follow.

    Dear Christians,

Beware of those who try to send Christians on the path of aggressive behavior and cause disrespect to
Bible teachings. Those who want to pursue this matter further to clear their doubts , need to stay within
the bounds of law and pray to the Lord to guide them along the right path according to his promise (Psalm 23 ). Lord alone can protect us from the snares of the evil one by His precious blood and guidance.

Whatever it may be the course of his death, but without a reason no one will end their precious life that too a young charming gods servant never do this way. Just imagine has he sacrificed his 12-14 long years to get his priesthood and end his life miseracely. No never. So investigation is must . We know by fighting we will not get our beloved person back to us but justice can give rest in peace to our beloved. So we have to fight till the truth come out and give fr.mahesh soul 'rest in peace' . AMEN

Our heart sunk, and still it’s in pain when we heard the news about Fr. Mahesh. Though we do not know him personally, yet he was God's creation, Son of his parents who offered him to work in our Lord's vineyard. What faith and hope the parents must have had to surrender HIM at Lord's service as a Priest. Is there any greater joy than this to see their own son standing on the Altar and offering himself to the Lord!!! But all their dreams ended on that day when they heard about their son's departure from this earthly aboard and that too like this !!!!!!
Even a blind person can say it’s not a suicide....but the first news was out saying Mr. Mahesh ended his life by committing suicide...!!! how sad...our spiritual heads allowed this news to publish...how pathetic !!! People already released the statement, already made up their mind, gave their judgment...though it is written in the Bible "Do not judge others, you will be judged too".

Even if it is a suicide, there must be a solid reason behind it right????...why one will go to that extent do end his/her life without a strong reason behind it...why people fail to understand that!!! even in suicide there are many murders, firstly the one who commits it and the then those who leads it to happen !!!

Fr. Mahesh's soul is rejoicing with the Lord for sure. But we as humans what we are doing!! when there are things in our hand to provide justice why we are stepping behind !! how anyone can sleep peacefully knowing the fact that there is a solid foul play behind his death...where is our conscious !!!

Truly day by day...our faith and our hope is been targeted, and incident like this makes us vulnerable, is there is something called "JUSTICE" in this world????????????

Praying for you every day Fr. Mahesh...May God grant you eternal peace. May the same Lord give strength and grace to your parents and siblings to bear this unbearable pain.

    RIP Fr. Mahesh.

Dear Shirva parishioners. Keep up your fight in demanding true justice regarding unnatural demise of Fr Mahesh. Natural justice is fundamental right of every citizen.
Demand for CBI action or court appointed SIT investigation. Certainly things looking very fishy. RIP dear Fr.Mahesh.

This suicide case is very un-fortunate incident ..Possible many contributing factors are connected to this incident that caused for sudden depression & led to this incident..
People from Shirva.. track the truth thro' justice system....though it is very hard .. due to many reasons.

Dead are not dead and gone. Their spirit lives in the people who they served sincerely. Suicide or murder, either way, there must be a cause and the people of Shirva must know. All saints and all souls, rise up and speak up. Our hearts are restless until it rests in truth.

I hope that people of Diocese of mangalore and UdupI come together for this cause and fight for Justice. May Fr Mahesh soul rest in eternal peace.

WHAT THE HELL; WHY WOULD ANY PARENTS NOT WANT AN INVESTIGATION INTO THEIR SON'S SUSPICIOUS DEATH?????

IMHO, 100% EITHER THEY ARE UNDER THREAT OR TOTALLY GUILTY???

COURTS SHOULD "SUO MOTO" GIVE ORDERS FOR A DEEP INVESTIGATION & FIND OUT THE TRUTH AND PUBLISH THE TRUTH TO THE "INNOCENT LAITY"!!

Udupi diocese is not a investigating agency and Bishop is not head of NIA. Please Police to do their job and our church is not so powerful that it can influence the investigation. Also respect the sentiments of parents. Dont trouble our Catholic church which is already disturbed by many issues. Dont be a part of problem, be a part of solution. We will come to know the truth one day and have patience. Dont create stories or provoke people just to fulfill somebody's personal agenda. People are waiting outside to exploit the situation and create divisions among us.

If parents ask not to investigate the case, it is over?Asper prevailing law of country, case can be closed with proper investigation with cross examining all evidence. In this regards no one can stop the investigation. How Fr.D. D'sa can say his family don't want to proceed further. Let law and order find out the truth.
