Bantwal, Aug 11: Congress-backed member Ida Suresh was elected as the chairperson of the taluk panchayat (TP) social justice standing committee, at the elections held for the chiefs of various standing committees of the taluk panchayat, here on Monday August 10. On the whole, the Congress Party bagged a major share in the taluk panchayat elections.
The elections were held during the extra-ordinary general body meeting, chaired by taluk panchayat president M Babu, held here on Monday August 10.
Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai, Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad and Mangalore MLA U T Khader, also attended the meeting and cast their votes at the occasion.
Congress-backed members Chandrahas Shetty Bolantoor, Kanchalakshi, Vinoda Vishwanath Poojary, Mohammed Saleh and Padmavati were elected as the members of the standing committee.
Congress-supported candidates Naseema Hassan, Yamuna, Usman Karopady, Praveen Alva and Kushala M Peraje were elected as members of finance and audit standing committee. As per the Panchayat Raj Act, taluk panchayat vice president becomes eligible for the post of the chairman of the standing committee and taluk panchayt president gets entitled for the post of the chairman of finance and audit committee.
Ida Suresh, elected president of social justice standing committee:
Congress-backed D K Hamza, Malati C H, Sunita Padmanabha, Ida Suresh, Ummer Sajipa and Flossy D’Souza, were elected for the social justice standing committee. D K Hamza proposed Ida Suresh for the post of chairperson, while Malati C H seconded her name.
The new committees will assume charge on Thursday August 13, as the term of three earlier committees will expire. Taluk panchayat chief executive officer Vasantraj Shetty conducted the proceedings of elections. Taluk panchayat vice president Chandrahas Karkera and standing committee chairperson Flossy D’Souza were also present.
