Bengaluru, Nov 1: At the cabinet meeting, it is learnt that several ministers asked the government not to buckle under pressure being mounted by former minister, D K Shivakumar, on the issue of shifting of medical college sanctioned to Kanakapura to Chikkaballapur.
A number of ministers including deputy chief minister, Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, reportedly asked the chief minister not to change stand about the shifting of college. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, concurred with their view and said that it is not possible to sanction a medical college to every taluk. He noted that Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has already been sanctioned to Ramanagara.
D K Shivakumar
Ashwath Narayan opined that irrespective of whether Shivakumar undertakes protest, fast, or other forms of agitation, the decision on shifting of medical college to Chikkaballapur should not be withdrawn. Many ministers supported him, it is learnt.
In the meantime, Shivaliumar has accused Yediyurappa of owning politics of vengeance. He warned that he will not sit quiet if the government does not sanction medial college for Kanakapura.
The cabinet meeting in the meantime, gave its nod to carve out Machenahalli revenue division in Gauribidanur taluk of Chikkaballapur district as a separate taluk. Although former minister Shivashankar Reddy, has been opposing this proposal, the cabinet meeting went ahead and took this decision, thus honouring another demand of disqualified Chikkaballapur MLA Dr Sudhakar.
