Sydney, Oct 31: With the help of Sri Hari, Vayu, Gurugalu and Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puthige Math ,Udupi, Sri Venkata Krishna Vrundavana Sydney (SVKVS), a branch of Udupi ,Shree Puthige Math organized the first ‘Yakshagana’ event in Sydney.
The play was based on Sudhanvarjuna Kalaga and was held on October 26 at Durga Devi Temple Auditorium, Regents Park, Sydney, NSW, Australia.
The artistes led by M Devanand Bhat from Shri Yakshadeva Mithra Kala Mandali, Belvai, Moodbidri, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka came all the way from India to showcase this unique form of art to Sydney-based audience. The artistes were Devanand Bhat (Chende), Ravinchandra Kannadikatte (Bhagavata), Chaitanyakrishna Padyana (Maddale), Lakshman Kumar Marakada, Shruthakeerthiraj and Akshay Marnad (Mummela artistes).
The event was attended by more than 500 people. The event generated lot of interest from the beginning and the electrifying performance by the Yakshagana team, along with the tireless efforts by volunteers, made sure the event was a grand success.
Nithish Achar and Vishwanath Bhat of SVKVS performed the puja and inaugurated the event. Amitha Rajesh Bhat was the MC and Parimala Ranganath rendered the vote of thanks.
There was diverse audience from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana to appreciate the talent and the art.
The play was beautifully narrated and the audience was awed by the dance, music, dialogues, costume, makeup, stage techniques and felt entertained till the end. The crowd gave the Yakshagana team a standing ovation. The event also gave chance to local talents Suhas Karanth and Anirudhh for showing their Yakshagana skills.
The event concluded by Nithish Achar felicitating the Yakshagana team by presenting mementos on the behalf of SVKVS and Sydney audience.
