Kundapur, Oct 30: Forest officers conducted raid on a container in which 21 male and female buffaloes, which were being transported illegally and in an inhumane manner, were rescued and they arrested two accused persons with the help of the police.
This incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, October 30 at Nayikodi check post of Jadkal near Kollur in the taluk.
The arrested persons are identified as Imran Basha (27), a resident of Talavaru Hatti of Nitavalli Nagara of Davanagere and Tabrez Befari (22), a resident of Old Hubballi.
It is learnt that Imran and Tabrez were transporting the cattle illegally in an Eicher truck from Davanagere to a slaughterhouse in Manjeshwar of Kerala state. The act of the accused came to light, when Dayananada K, assistant zonal forest officer and Janardhana Poojary, forest viewer , who were on patrol duty at Nayikodi check post on the state highway 27 near Kollur, stopped the vehicle for checking.
The forest officials informed the matter immediately to the Kollur police, who rushed to the spot and arrested the accused and rescued the cattle. 12 male buffaloes and nine female buffaloes worth Rs 5.5 lac were rescued in the operation.
It is said that members of Bajrang Dal of Kollur had participated in the rescue operation. A case in this regard stands registered at Kollur police station.
